What is CWEF?

Canadian World Education Foundation (CWEF) is a non-profit charitable tax-exempt organization in Canada. It all started in 1996-97 with 2 donors/members. CWEF became a corporation in 1999 and was granted tax-exempt status in 2001. has grown to 106 by 2008-09; now assisting 626 widowed mothers and improving the future of 715 children in India, and 60 orphans in Kenya.

Objectives of CWEF

The driving motivation for CWEF is to enhance educational opportunities, and some of its specific objectives are:

  • to assist the impoverished families around the world for the education of their children
  • to establish awards for promoting and encouraging higher education in post-secondary institutions around the world
  • to help improve the reading capabilities of young students .

" I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again ." Mahatma Gandhi

Who are its donors?

Some of these donors received assistance for their education from  individuals who were not family members. Others received scholarships and teaching assistantships from schools, colleges, universities and charitable organizations for their education. The donors deeply appreciate the value of the assistance they received in furthering their education and wish to help others by donating for this cause. Together, they formed the organization called CWEF. Today, through CWEF,  these donors assist in the education of children they may never meet in life. These friends want to assist children of needy widows to help them break the cycle of poverty and prepare them so that they can also assist others when they are well settled.

How does the Indian Chapter work?

For Indian Chapter, CWEF assists needy widows for the education of their children. The organization works with the Headmasters and the Principals of schools and colleges who become volunteers of this organization. The selfless work they and their colleagues do as volunteers is priceless. These volunteers assist in identifying the needy and in the distribution of assistance. The organization will assist mothers whose children study in 25 Institutions in 9 different states in India during the academic year 2010-2011.

What is its philosophy?

Members of CWEF feel blessed to be able to help these children. They want these children to know that there is nothing in this world that they cannot achieve if they work hard and do their best in their studies at this time of their life.

CWEF is sure that one day these children will become important members of the society. They will have responsibilities and commitments. CWEF is confident that one of their commitments will be to help other needy widows for the education of their children and assist  those mothers in need of help without expecting anything in return. All of us are His creations. We cannot see Him or perceive Him by any of our senses. However, when we help someone and do something good for others, it is at that time we realize God is guiding us and is working through us.
